Where It All Started

What is known today as “Mosoj Chaski Ministries”(New Messenger Ministries) began in 1999 as a short-wave Christian radio station to serve the more than three million Quechuas scattered throughout the country of Bolivia. Mosoj Chaski came into being through the combined efforts of missionaries from SIM International, New Tribes Mission and Pioneers International. Now, after 10 years, Mosoj Chaski Ministries is run entirely by a well-trained staff of Bolivian nationals, with oversight provided by a Board of Directors.

Shortly after going on air, Mosoj Chaski responded to the pressing need of the extremely high illiteracy rate among the Quechua by starting “Pakitu” a Quechua literacy program. Pakitu provides literacy materials and training for both believers and unbelievers, but the primary goal is to help people learn to read their Bibles.

As Mosoj Chaski became known throughout the country, a steady stream of visitors began to visit the radio station. That led to the establishment of the first Christian Quechua bookstore, located at the station in Cochabamba, followed by a second bookstore in the city of Sucre. They not only sell Quechua books and music, but also receive radio announcements and provide Biblical counsel and advice to those who visit.

In 2005 the Pastors’ Reference Bookset ministry began. Personnel from Mosoj Chaski produced a Bible Manual, Bible Dictionary, Bible Atlas and a Concordance, all in Quechua. A team of men now travel throughout the country training lay leaders in the use of these materials.
